The Alzheimer's Society have asked us to share an update which reflects on some of the amazing things they were able to achieve last year thanks to their supporters, plus look ahead to what’s to come in 2022.
Update on Support
More than 600 Dementia Advisers in communities all over the country supported over 12,380 people in 2021. These kind and devoted experts assess needs, provide advice and keep in touch with anyone who needs their support.
Last year Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Connect support line received more calls than ever before, with a 32% increase. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, over 20 more advisers are at the end of the phone ready to listen, care and give guidance to anyone who needs it, like Paul.
Paul, 56, was diagnosed with Korsakoff Syndrome, a rarer type of dementia in 2021. Here, Paul and his wife Lisa share more about his diagnosis journey and how they have been supported by Dementia Advisers.
Update on Society
Dementia Action Week: 16-22 May 2022
Dementia Action Week is an opportunity for us all to come together to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. This year’s theme will focus on diagnosis and exploring the benefits of receiving a dementia diagnosis and busting some common myths along the way. More information will be shared in the coming weeks. Keep up to date with ways to get involved.
Update on research
Last year, Alzheimer’s Society invested over £800,000 in Early Career Researchers – some of the brightest PhD students and research fellows in the UK. Not only are these researchers advancing dementia research for people living with dementia now, but they will become the dementia research leaders of the future. Research will beat dementia in decades to come but it can also drastically improve the lives of people living with the condition right now. Whether that’s through new ways of caring, new treatments or innovations to support independent living – the benefits of research are endless.
